Bipolar and Relationships: Quit Using My Bipolar Against Me

When you live with bipolar disorder, or any mental health condition, having it used against you in relationships is more common than people may assume. Suddenly, everything you do or say is under a microscope. People are constantly blaming unfortunate incidences or emotional reactions on your mental health condition. It is especially difficult when it happens in a romantic relationship and it has the potential of seriously damaging a person's mental health.

It has been three years since my relationship ended with my ex-boyfriend who, unfortunately, gave meaning to the term “gaslighting”. In this video, I explain the role that stigma plays in relationships and bipolar disorder as it relates to my own experience.

Has your bipolar disorder been used against you in a romantic relationship? How did you handle it? Please share your experience in the comment section below or do a response video and send it in to info@ healthyplace.com. Thanks! Hannah
