Have you heard the term, involuntary commitment for mental illness? It's when you are sent to a psychiatric hospital or facility against your will.

I was 19 years old and it was a couple days after my initial bipolar breakdown (https://youtu.be/1OGpF1DMhf8 ) that my family sought out professional help. I was taken to the emergency room at the local hospital. As I laid in the hospital bed, my father by my side, the nurse came in and out, adjusting my IV. Little did I know at the time that she was sedating me. The next thing I knew, I was handcuffed and in the back of a police cruiser experiencing what involuntary commitment is all about.

In this video, I describe what it was like going from a young woman who needed help for bipolar disorder to a dangerous liability now feeling punished for being sick. Treated as a criminal, not a patient. Handcuffed for a crime I did not commit.
