Emotion Regulation and Dating with Bipolar Disorder (Video)

October 29, 2011 Tracey Lloyd

Many people aren't good at relationships, particularly at the beginning. What might be a time of excitement and optimism for the average person can turn to anxiety and depression for someone with bipolar. In this blog post, I compare the feelings I experience during the beginning of a relationship - in this case, with Erik, a new love interest - with the mood fluctuations of bipolar disorder.

Excellent topic. I get the same thing. I would love to date and I have schizoaffective disorder and for all the reasons that you mentioned, it brings me stress and I have chosen for quite some time to not date. Although I have met several terrific guys that I did not respond to or pursue even when they expressed an interest many times first - I found it too overwhelming to deal with them in the midst of a vast array of unpredictable symptoms etc. I regret that terribly. Thanks for speaking out.
