Self Care in Recovery and Life

August 11, 2011 Kendra Sebelius

I took off a week off blogging, and after a mini breakdown of anxiety and panic attacks, I wanted to discuss in detail the importance of self care, and healthy coping skills not only in early sobriety, but in life as well. I will be on vacation next week and feel really passionate about this topic so I did two vlogs to talk about struggles, healthy coping skills, self care, and how it is important to take care of ourselves before we can help anyone else. I hope you enjoy and look forward to coming back in two weeks refreshed from my vacation off all media, internet and lounging by the pool in palm springs! If you want a funny puppy story definitely watch the second video :)

According to the recommendation of European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP), the intention of psychiatric treatment is the recovering of mentally ill patient. Indeed, this means to return life skills of respective patient. Without this accomplishment, the psychiatric treatment would be incomplete and temporary. As it is looked, these views are in agreement with Yours thoughts on successful treatment from addiction disorder. In other words, it isn't enough to soften the symptoms of any psychiatric disease by medication. In current psychiatric treatment, the main aim is sophisticated rehabilitation and resocialization of mentally ill person, by development of personal, social and professional affinity. It is understood, in this direction it should take care on self well-being, through fulfillment of elementary biologic, psychologic and socioeconomic necessities.

Still in the middle of watching, but I'm loving what I'm seeing/hearing. I definitely struggled yesterday and must say I'm proud of myself for realizing I needed to step away, breathe, text with a (super awesomesauce) friend. ;) It all calmed me down and helped to center me when I felt like I was about to go in an anxiety tailspin. Thanks for being there. ♥

I totally agree with Jenn, you're excellent in video! Are you a speaker? Because you should be... :)
I completely agree with basically everything you say in these videos. We must must must take care of ourselves before we try to help others! Otherwise, we simply have nothing to give, because we're already starving ourselves (literally + figuratively) of the care we need.
So glad you're taking a break + a vacation. :) Palm Springs, so close to Sandy Eggo... come visit! ;)
You're wise, Kendra. I'd love to have you as a guest b/vlogger myself! :D
