Positive Messages Can Change an Unsafe Mind
I tend to naturally seek out sayings or lines from books and movies that bring forward some kind of message. Sometimes the message may be scary or upsetting. However, it’s the positive messages that always bring me to a thoughtful state. When I hear or read a good quote, I try to link it to my life in some way. Sometimes, I will write a quote down in a notebook or post it on Twitter or Facebook, just so I don’t lose it.
When it comes to the struggle with self-harm, positive sayings and messages can help move an unsafe mind in a safer direction. However, it is up to the person behind the scars to see the message and move forward with it.
We all know it isn’t easy to move forward. Even if you have therapists, psychiatrists, friends and family behind you, it is still up to you to make that initial step forward. Somehow, you need to fill yourself with an energy that brings you hope and determination.
Sometimes, that energy can be found within words.
Where are these Positive Messages Hiding?
The world is filled with symbolism and messages are everywhere. Even sayings in commercials and on billboards could spark something in your mind that turns you in a healthier direction. Just by opening your eyes, you can find a helpful tidbit of information.
Books are more than helpful when it comes to finding quotes that are filled with relatable messages. In Noon, one of the characters is struggling with self-harm. As the reader follows her struggles, many of her thoughts present points that could easily be seen as relatable. As she moves forward, her thoughts become positive and the messages become more passionate. However, her journey towards a scar-free life isn’t easy.
The media is filled with positive messages. Movies and TV shows tend to have serious lines that really make you think about your future endeavors. Being a notebook collector, there are notebooks almost everywhere that are covered in quotes that could shift my thinking for the day.
And as we know, music lyrics tend to be filled with relateable messages. Well, some music.

- “You are confined only by the walls you build yourself.” Once you learn how to knock the walls down that are standing in your way, you will finally be able to see the light of success.
- “Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling.” Margaret Lee Runback, thank you for enforcing the idea that we must make an effort if we want to seek success.
