About Jami DeLoe, Author of 'Trauma! A PTSD Blog'
Hi, my name is Jami DeLoe and I am thrilled to be joining the HealthyPlace.com blogging community as a writer for Trauma! A PTSD Blog. I was diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) about four years ago, after suffering with it for well over 20 years. Read on to learn more about my journey with PTSD.
Jami DeLoe and PTSD
My journey with PTSD has been an eventful one. Because the trauma that I suffered started at the fairly young age of 15 years old, I don’t really remember a time when I didn’t have some type of PTSD symptom affecting me. I had all of the classic signs of PTSD: flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, anxiety, depression, memory issues, avoidance issues, guilt, shame, and, eventually, alcoholism. It was only when I could no longer deal with the symptoms sufficiently to function in my daily life that I sought help for my drinking and was finally diagnosed with PTSD.
It was a huge relief to have something concrete that explained my feelings and behavior, but it was equally distressing because I knew nothing about PTSD. Over the next few years I took the time to learn what PTSD is and how to deal with it. I sought therapy and began seeing a psychiatrist.
While seeking professional mental health help was priority for me, and a necessity, I have learned just as much, if not more, from talking with other PTSD sufferers. Listening to their stories, ways of coping, and suggestions has been vital to my recovery.
The Road to Recovery from PTSD
The road to recovery from PTSD can be long and complicated. Without the support of others who have been down that road, I never would’ve made it to where I am now, which, most days, is a pretty great place to be. It’s my hope that I’m able to do the same for others by sharing my own experiences and providing support and information about living with PTSD.

Thank you for sharing Jami. I was diagnosed with ptsd last year after having a psychotic break. It's still very unclear to me if previous trauma were the cause or if the psychosis was the cause. I occasionally write about my experience on my own blog.

Jami, so happy to find you ! I am a 72 year old male and was incested by my mother when I was between 6-7 years old. I have been married 4 times and divorced 4 times. I have just this year realized the correlation between my incest and the reason all of these marriages failed. I too am a recovering alcoholic, into my 33 year of recovery. I will be looking forward to following you online. BTW my family physician also revealed to me recently that she is also a victim of sexual abuse within her immediate family and I am anxious to share this website with her...
Thanks for being there !!!
Thank you for sharing, Steve. Unfortunately, I believe that there is so much more sexual abuse happening than anyone realizes, and the effects can last a lifetime. Those of us with PTSD and other illnesses, like alcoholism, can attest to that. I am so happy to hear that you are in recovery, and wow, 33 years of sobriety, that's amazing. I am inspired by that, as I am only in year 3, and even that seems like forever.
My hope for this blog is that I show that healing is possible and that those who have suffered trauma can recover. Thank you for helping me spread the word!
Jami
