Follow the Rules Out of Adult ADHD Boredom

This is a misleading title perhaps. What I want to talk about today are Legos and games of all sorts. I want to talk about adult ADHD and boredom and what can bring relief. I want to talk about having fun when fun can't be had and all sorts of interesting thing. And, I want to talk about whether rules make fun more fun or less fun. Let's get started!

Adult ADHD and Bored to Death

I have been one heck of a bored monkey as of late. I've been drowning in boredom, in fact. I get up in the morning, am bored through much of school, am bored on my commute home and then and bored until bedtime. It's just one of those Adult ADHD things that happens sometimes. How do I fix it?

I fix it by following quick and easy rules. Now, I know some Adult ADHD'ers dislike rules plenty, but they work great for me. Give me a task, 20 steps and I'm happy as can be.

Here is a list of things that can be done in fewer than 20 steps and fewer than 20 minutes:

  1. Dishes
  2. Legos (not one of the big huge Star Wars ones - one of the small ones where you create something like a backyard scene)
  3. Crossword Puzzle (possibly more than 20 steps, depending on how you look at it)
  4. Logic Puzzle from one of those Dell magazines
  5. Mini-craft project with clear-cut rules
  6. Color a picture with fewer than 5 colors
  7. Read a short story or 1 poem
  8. Vacuum 2 rooms
  9. Ride a stationary bicycle for exactly 20 minutes
  10. A recipe that you already have the ingredients for

Okay, I've made the list, which is typically my first bit of advice, for you. Now, if you're bored, go and do something short, simple, and full of rules that you don't have to be the one to think up.
