3 Basic, Powerful Mental Health Tools for Your Journey
Sometimes, the variety of options for improving mental health can be overwhelming. These suggestions are simple ones (but they do require work and patience) that are among the most important mental health tools you can use for your mental health journey.
3 Tools for Lasting Mental Health
Beginning when you wake up and continuing until bedtime, using these tools will steadily improve your mental health for life.
- Set your body clock. Mental health struggles can interfere in sleep routines. Without a set time to go to bed and wake up, the brain can’t establish a sleep rhythm. Set a sleep routine and stick to it.
- Feed your brain. What we eat is a major source of brain health. Processed, refined, sugary foods and drinks don’t supply what the brain needs for mental health. What are the best foods for mental health? Eat produce, proteins, and other healthy foods and drink water to increase mental health.
- Soak up the sun—but not too much. Sunlight plays a part in mental health. Too little can lead to negative moods, including depression and anxiety. Too much can cause anxiety or trigger mania in people with bipolar disorder. Find a balance by getting outside for some exercise, such as a mindful walk, and even outdoor yoga or meditation.
When you start with these basic mental health tools, you give your brain what it needs to increase your mental health.
