Learn Meditation for Beginners

February 17, 2016 Arley Hoskin, CMPS

I’ve always wanted to be a person who regularly meditates so I decided to learn meditation for beginners. I didn’t know where to start, but after a quick search I found several HealthyPlace.com meditation resources and many other websites that teach beginner meditation.

Why Learn Meditation?

Learning meditation can be easy. Beginners can learn meditation by practicing just two minutes a day. Need some meditation for beginners ideas? Check this out.I’ve heard multiple people list meditation as the one habit they would recommend to people who want to enhance their peace and wellbeing. One friend told me that meditating just five minutes a day drastically changed his life.

How does one act make such a big difference? I suspect it’s because meditation stretches and strengthens our mind in the same way yoga and Pilates stretches and strengthens our bodies. Meditation prepares you for what lies ahead. It makes you better equipped to handle life’s stresses and therefore helps you maintain the state of bliss that you desire.

How to Start Meditation as A Beginner

If you are new to meditation, don’t be intimidated. Meditation is something that all of us can do—even beginners. Start by sitting in a quiet place for just two minutes a day. Breathe in for two beats and then exhale for two beats.

Focus on your breathing and try to clear your mind of all of the clutter. When thoughts enter your mind, don’t get down on yourself. Instead, acknowledge the thoughts and then return your focus to your breathing.

If two minutes seems too long, try this one minute meditations instead.

Explore Where Beginner Meditation Takes You

Once you become practiced, you can increase the amount of time you meditate during each session. Meditation teaches you how to still your mind and helps enhance your focus. With regular meditation you may find it easier to pray, practice yoga, and be creative.

If you need more ideas for how to meditate, try these five minute meditations. And if you really feel inspired you can try a mindfulness meditation course.

See where meditation takes you and follow the positive energy. Learning to meditate is possible—even for beginners like you and me.

This most certainly is not the way I meditate! My idea of meditation is either sitting quietly in my recliner at home and praying my Rosary or reading one of my prayer books or attending the Tridentine Mass / Latin Mass which is quite peaceful and nothing like the Novus Ordo Mass. Or spending time in a perpetual adoration chapel which is totally quiet. I am not at all into Yoga. I definitely do not 'follow the crowd' and I can thank my major depression that brought me to this. God knew exactly what He was doing. There are days when my radio or TV is not turned on. Also, I am 60+
